3 Days Alego Kogelo Tour
Introduction
Take these awesome days to explore the little visited Alego, Kogelo, Siya district in Nyanza province of Kenya. Alego Kogelo hit the headlines all over the world in 2008 as this is the root of the American president Barack Obama. Kogelo is a small village and it is part of the big Alego. In Nyanza much has been said about Alego people and particularly Kogelo that was known for their expertise n traditional medicine and charms used to protect the innocent from evildoers.
From the modernized city of Nairobi this cultural discovery will take you through the Great Rift Valley floor with its dotted soda lakes, then down to the green tea bushes that sweep Kericho fields for miles before arriving in the lake shore city of Kisumu. From Kisumu we will have more unknown attractions to explore.
Day 1:Nairobi – Kisumu
This morning we will leave Nairobi at 0900 hours for a long drive to Kisumu. You will have stopovers on the Great Rift Valley for the amazing nature wonders and also the magnificent views of the lakes and the tea zone of Kericho. Picnic lunch is to be enjoyed on the way. Our arrival in Kisumu is in the evening. Dinner and overnight is at either Jumia Guest House, Rock Motel/ Rosala Motel or similar
Day 2: Kisumu sightseeing – Kogelo
This morning after breakfast you will leave for Alego, Kogelo driving across the equator. On your arrival you will proceed to Obama’s grandparent’s home. Mama Sarah Obama who is our hostess and the main star here has a lot to share with you and this shall be an eye-opening juncture. We shall have a 45 minute chat with her. From here we shall move on to explore other attraction sites in this region. Our first one shall be a visit to Lake Kanyaboli, the only oxbow lake in Kenya. The surrounding has some grand views of the expansive Yala Swamp which is also a habitat for rare and endemic bird species like the Blue Breasted Bee Eater, the Papyrus Gonolek, the Swamp Flycatcher, the Papyrus Canary, the White Winged Warbler, the Great Snapper and the Baillor’s Crane.
Driving across the dyke we will cross the equator again this time on our way to Ramogi Hills. This where Luo’s first settled after migrating from the Nile Valley in Sudan. We will then move on to Bondo town for lunch and then drive to Kit Mikaye. This is another important landmark that is believed to be the boulders of the first wife.
After having a good day out we will drive to the hotel for dinner and overnight at Jumia Guest House, Rock Motel/ Rosala Motel or similar
Day 3: Kisumu – Nairobi
Today, we will leave the lakeside city for another long drive back to Nairobi. We will stop in Nakuru for lunch. Our arrival here is in the evening marking the end of this tour.
