Kilimanjaro Climbing Machame Route
Activity Duration: 6 days
At 5896m, snow capped Mt. Kilimanjaro, known as the ceiling of Africa, has the highest peak in Africa. It is one of the continent's most magnificent sights. It rises through lush rainforest, alpine meadows and barren lunar landscape to the twin summits of Kibo and Mawenzi. For most of the trekkers the goal is always to reach Uhuru peak, Kibo's highest point. The Machame route has a gradual ascent before approaching the summit via the top section of the Mweka route, its upper section, which is often covered with snow and ice, is a serious undertaking. A mountain guide accompanied by a cook and porters who carry the food, camping equipment and other supplies lead each climb.
Day 0: Arrive in Arusha
Arrive late in the evening at Kilimanjaro Airport. Meet and greet by Nappet Tours & Travel Staff and then be transferred to your lodge in Arusha.
• Overnight: (Luxury/Standard/Budget) Hotel/Lodge – HB
Day 1: Arusha/Machame
After breakfast and drive to Machame Gate. Day one is great introduction to the adventure you are embarking on. Walking time ranges from 4.5hrs- 6hrs.
• Overnight: Machame Camp. Altitude is 3100 Metres above seal level.
Day 2: Shira
After breakfast, break camp and with picnic Lunch boxes continue your ascent leaving the Lushness of the rain Forest behind you.
• Overnight: Shira Camp. Altitude is 3840 Metres above sea level.
Day 3: Baranco
After breakfast, begin a gradual climb cutting your way through the low Alpine bush. Bird watching on these open slopes can be rewarding with several different type of birds of prey scouring the scrub for small mammals.
• Overnight: Baranco Camp. Altitude is 3900 Metres above sea level.
Day 4: Barafu
After breakfast, with your picnic Lunch boxes proceed to skirt around the south side of the mountain. Begin to climb through the Alpine desert and moraine fields. Relax and soak up the vistas below you, a light dinner will be served. Rest and try and get some sleep, you will be woken at 12:30am for your final challenge.
• Overnight: Barafu Camp. Altitude is 4600 Metres above sea level.
Day 5: Summit – Mweka
After a hot tea and snacks start your ascent to the highest peak in Africa (Uhuru Peak) this stands at (5895m). Have your camera’s ready for when the sun winks a sleepy eye at you. After you’ve done the victory dance on the summit and celebrated with a complimentary bottle of Champagne, with your guide take a close look at the ice formations of the Glaciers and in your own time reflect on this amazing achievement.
• Overnight: Mweka Camp. Altitude is 3340 Metres above sea level.
Day 6: Mweka Gate – Arusha
After breakfast, with your picnic lunch boxes, proceed back down into the forest, a beautiful walk again offering good bird watching opportunities, there are some good view points on route to the valley below. Continue down to the Gate. Here you will meet one of our vehicle, and be brought back to Arusha then back to your Hotel.

Day 7: Arusha / Depart
After breakfast spend the rest of the day in Arusha, with a farewell lunch, some shopping and a dayroom to prepare for your flight home this evening.
