The Republic of South Africa, is located at the southern tip of the continent of Africa. The South African coast stretches 2,798 kilometres and uniquely borders both the Atlantic and Indian oceans. However, it’s bordered to the north by Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe; to the east are Mozambique and Swaziland, while the Kingdom of Lesotho is an independent enclave surrounded by South African territory. South Africa is dominated by two major ethnic groups the Xhosa and Zulu peoples. South Africa is known for its diversity in cultures, languages, and religious beliefs. Eleven official languages are recognized in the constitution English is the most commonly spoken language in official and commercial public life; however, it is only the fifth most-spoken home language. South Africa is sixth among the only 17 countries worldwide considered megadiverse because it has more than 20,000 different plants, or about 10% of all the known species of plants on Earth. This makes it particularly rich in plant biodiversity.
