"Last retreat of the roan antelope"
Ruma National park is situated in Lambwe Valley in South Nyanza, 140 km from Kisumu, 10km east of Lake Victoria. The savannah ecosystem encompasses open grasslands and tracts of woodlands and thickets dominated by Acacia and Balanites plant species.
A variety of wildlife occurs in the ecosystem but the most notable is the Roan Antelope which is not found anywhere else in the country. Other animals include Oribi, Bohors reedbucks and Rotschild giraffes. The park is also rich in Ostrich, Impala and gazelles.

 ACCESS

•    By Road: 425 km West of Nairobi. 10km east of Lake Victoria and  23km South-west of Homa Bay. The main gate is 42km  from Homa Bay.
•    By Air: There are various airstrips in the park - Kamboyo, Kilaguni, Tsavo Gate, Jipe, Kasigau,Finch Hattons, Ziwani, and Makatau.

•    120 Km2
•    Suba District, Nyanza Province

CLIMATE

•    The park has a humid climate, the long rains falling April-June and the short rains falling October-December

Entry is by cash only. Tickets may be purchased from KWS Hqs cash office or from the main gate, Oldonyo Sabuk National Park. Proof of identification will be required.
